Man United and Jack Butland have held positive talks about the Englishman potentially joining the Reds on loan.
Manchester United Football Club have been steadily improving under Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman is implementing his style and tactics nicely, though slowly but surely, the dressing room will start to look rather different.
One area which has been subject to much speculation is the goalkeeper position. For all of his qualities, David de Gea isn’t really seen as the ideal fit for this system. To his credit, the Spaniard has been superb of late.
With Martin Dubravka recalled from his Old Trafford loan, the need to bring in a new shot-stopper has arisen. Clearly, Tom Heaton isn’t deemed good enough…
Jack Butland was linked with a switch to United on loan earlier today.
Clearly, this is a fast-moving transfer, with the Manchester Evening News quickly following that up with another update – claiming that United have held ‘positive’ talks with the player about potentially joining the club on loan this month.
It’s reiterated that United are looking to bring in a back-up for De Gea, with Butland currently the number two at Crystal Palace.
Butland strikes us as someone who could come in and do a decent enough job, should De Gea be struck down by any sort of serious injury. However, he’s probably not got enough about him to usurp De Gea and become a future number one in Manchester.
More than anything, this just feels like a bit of a safety net in case injury does strike. There’s not much else to say beyond that. Either way, it’s nice to see United remaining proactive in the mid-season window.
