Man United have brought in Jack Butland on loan for the remainder of the season. He sent a message to the fans shortly after.
Jack Butland is now here. The Englishman has been brought in (swiftly, I’ll add) to replace Martin Dubravka as Manchester United’s backup goalkeeper for the rest of the season.
The Englishman, who was a backup over at Crystal Palace, will now backup David de Gea at the Theatre of Dreams. A pretty big upgrade for the player, even if I do say so myself!
Honestly, it probably would have been impossible for Butland, 29, to turn down the biggest move of his career. It was an easy decision to make and I’m really glad United have got him in.
The good news? Butland himself seems super pleased to be here, too. He took to Twitter shortly after the move was confirmed to send a heartfelt message to the fans.
As he says, this is a massive opportunity. Alright, so the chances of Butland staying beyond June are slim. However, if he impresses, there’s every chance that Ten Hag would take some sort of cheap punt on the Englishman – particularly as he doesn’t seem to fancy Tom Heaton in that back-up role.
All it takes is an injury to De Gea, then Butland will be in there trying to prove his worth for the biggest club in the world…
The talent is so obviously there for Butland. It’s now just about working hard on the training pitch, patiently waiting for the opportunity and then grasping that chance with both hands.
Either way, it’s good that United have a contingency plan in place in case De Gea does pick up a problem.
