Erik ten Hag has revealed why Jadon Sancho was unavailable for selection for the Atletico Madrid game.
Manchester United’s final preparations ahead of the season starting are now underway. Atletico Madrid are today’s opponents, in a game that’ll be another stern test.
Erik ten Hag’s meticulous planning during pre-season has been evident. I’m feeling pretty confident going into the campaign. Sure, there’s a long road ahead but several players are already flourishing under his tutelage.
One man who has stood out is Jadon Sancho. The Englishman enjoyed himself on the tour of Australasia, though he will not feature this afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Ten Hag has explained what’s wrong with the United star, who will not be involved vs Atletico Madrid.
“Overnight he got sick, so he’s not available.” Ten Hag said live on MUTV.
Somewhat fortunately, at least it’s just a sickness bug for Sancho, rather than a serious injury that’d keep him sidelined for a while.
Although Sancho would have benefitted from the extra minutes in his legs, I’d like to think he will be fully fit to play next weekend – assuming he overcomes this sickness bug of course.
The Englishman looked super sharp throughout the four games he played in, thriving in this new system. No doubt being given a regular position (over on that right-hand side), has helped the attacker progress and grow in confidence.
One thing I will say is that the lack of depth United have (or don’t have) is seriously concerning. Without Sancho, Anthony Elanga has been brought into the XI, with Facundo Pellistri on the bench…
Putting trust in youth is all well and good, but moving away from Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata without replacing them feels very, very risky.
