Jadon Sancho’s Man United shirt number could already have been decided.
Man United have all but completed a move that’ll see Jadon Sancho move to Old Trafford this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s multi-year pursuit of the English superstar has finally paid off. Sancho’s exploits over in Germany definitely leave us United fans feeling excited at the prospect.
Now, it’s a waiting game for an official announcement, along with those photos of Sancho wearing Reds colours for the first time.
Then comes the decision of his jersey number. Many thought Sancho would take up the iconic number seven jersey. However, right now, that’s occupied by Edinson Cavani.
Well, the National News seem to believe Sancho’s jersey number is already decided. In fact, it’s ‘expected’ that the Englishman will wear the number sixteen for the upcoming season.
Call me old fashioned but I like my numbers to represent positions, ie your striker should be number nine. Sancho wearing 16, which is typically a midfielders’ number, does throw my psyche off a little bit.
That said, it doesn’t really matter too much. It’s all about what Sancho can do on the field and I’m very excited to see how he gets on.
This is a player who could easily remain at United for the next decade, potentially winning bucketloads of trophies and personal accolades along the way.
For Sancho, he’ll now have another couple of weeks off before linking up with his new teammates. Hopefully, he’ll feature in a pre-season game or two so he’s not thrown directly into the deep end when the serious stuff starts next month.
There’s also the need for players to be signed in other positions. You look at the defensive-midfield role as a possible need, while a centre-back simply has to be added to the playing squad this summer.
