Emerging Man United midfielder James Garner has reportedly rejected a new contract.

Here at Old Trafford Faithful, we’re massive fans of James Garner. We have been for at least a couple of years.

In the midfielder, I firmly believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a player ready to do a job in the first-team already. An excellent loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season only reinforced my opinion.

This pre-season, Garner has been in and around the first-team. However, it was widely expected the Englishman would head back out on loan once again.

As of right now, that decision is likely on hold. That’s because the emerging United starlet has rejected a new contract offer, per Football Insider.

It’s stated that United won’t sanction a loan move away for Garner until he commits his long-term future to the Old Trafford outfit.

As of right now, Garner has a year to run on his deal, though the club does hold the option to extend that by a further twelve months.

Football Insider adds that this latest decision by Garner has thrown his United future into ‘major doubt’, despite having played seven competitive fixtures for the club over the last couple of years.

For Garner, it seems like he’s now chomping at the bit to play his football here at United, because why else would he be turning down new terms?

The Englishman just wants to play football and I definitely agree he should’ve already had more trust placed in him by Solskjaer.

At this stage, I’m just not sure what another Championship loan move does for him. Why not make him fifth or sixth choice midfielder here with United and see what he can do when called upon over the next nine months?

United still have time to sort this one out, but I do feel somewhat concerned about the prospect of losing Garner.
