James Garner has explained it’s his dream to make it into the Manchester United first-team.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to build a side with the long-term in mind, highlighted by the recent first-team promotion of both Anthony Elanga and Shola Shoretire.

Now, another top-class talent from the United academy has outlined his plans at Old Trafford.

James Garner spent the majority of the campaign on loan with Nottingham Forest, where the Englishman greatly impressed in the Championship.

You’ve always felt like this young lad has what it takes to make it at United, it’s just that he has been starved of first-team opportunities. No doubt the loan move with Forest has done him the world of good.

Now, the United youngster has admitted he’s ready to do everything necessary to make it into the first-team, admitting it’s his ‘dream’ to play for United at the top level.

Check out what James Garner had to say on his first-team dream here:

“I think that’s ultimately the dream,” he told Inside United. “I’ve been at the club since seven or eight and the main focus is to be in the first team and do whatever takes to be with the first team.

“Like I’ve said, I’ll just keep working hard, keep my head down and have to see what is going to be best for my development. But, ultimately, my dream is to be with the first team and play for United.”

That positive attitude and mindset has always been there for Garner. He’s been on the fringes of things for a couple of years now and honestly, I’m surprised he’s not already within the first-team fold.

I’ve always had the impression that Solskjaer doesn’t really fancy Garner’s skillset, because he’s senior to the likes of Shoretire and Elanga, while I’d argue he’s far better-placed to compete in the Premier League than the duo.

I guess this summer will be telling. Garner should be amongst the guys involved on pre-season tour, with a view to him being promoted to the first-team at the start of the 2021/22 term. If he’s farmed out on loan again, I’d start to worry about his long-term future.

The overall talent and ability are there, as is the positive attitude demonstrated by these quotes.
