James Maddison a primary target for Man United, player in talks over new Leicester deal: report

Manchester United’s longstanding interest in James Maddison is well-documented. Heck, who wouldn’t want such a talented player at their club?

This morning, The Athletic ran a story in which it was claimed that the 23-year-old Premier League star is still a primary Man United target, along with Erling Braut Haaland.

However, any United move for Maddison has been somewhat complicated by the fact that he is in advanced talks with Leicester City over signing a new contract.

Apparently, any new deal being signed by Maddison would rule out a January move for the attacking midfielder, though it shouldn’t rule out ‘future interest’ in The Foxes’ #10.

Maddison and his Leicester side are flying high right now, scoring goals for fun and going toe-to-toe with the country’s best. With that in mind I’d highly doubt he’d want to leave Leicester in the mid-season window anyway.

Next summer, things could well be different. If United continue to improve and can fight their way into the top four, Maddison’s head could well be turned. It would likely be more expensive for the Reds to acquire the Englishman, though, as new terms often come with all-sorts of transfer clauses and such…

Maddison is tailor-made for this club. Word on the street is that he’s a United fan himself and that definitely plays into our hands. My personal opinion is that United will have a Paul Pogba-shaped hole in their midfielder next summer and Maddison would be perfect to fill that.
