Southampton captain, James Ward-Prowse, has emerged as a transfer target for Man United.
Manchester United’s squad is always going to be adapting and adjusting in the early stages of the Erik ten Hag era, with the gaffer trying to mould this squad into one that fits his image.
This coming summer transfer window is massive. The importance of getting it right cannot be understated. Make some astute additions and we’ll be right in the mix. Get it wrong and we’re back to square one.
Several names have already been linked with Old Trafford switches. Today, Football Insider throw a new target into the mix; James Ward-Prowse.
The Englishman, who has earned a reputation as the best free-kick taker in the country, currently captain’s Southampton.
However, according to the report, the 28-year-old Premier League star has emerged as a ‘summer target’ for United.
On top of that, Ten Hag is ‘hell-bent’ on adding to his side’s midfield options over the next few months.
Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also interested, with Southampton set to struggle to keep ahold of their main man if they’re relegated to the Championship.
Ward-Prowse has been Southampton’s best player for several years now and I’m surprised he’s still remained at the club.
At one stage, I always just assumed he was a set-piece specialist and that’s it. That’s just not the case. Ward-Prowse is a complete midfielder, who works tirelessly for the cause and pops up with several important goals over the course of a season. He’d be a fine asset to any side in the country.
This could be an astute piece of business if United could get it done – though it all comes down to Southampton and their Premier League survival.
