Jarrad Branthwaite has no intention of signing new Everton deal amid Man United interest

Jarrad Branthwaite is refusing to sign new terms at Everton, unless they match the contract offer placed on the table by Man United.

Manchester United have signed one defender in the form of Leny Yoro this summer, with the Red Devils starting to fix their back line issues from last term.

The possibility of adding multiple centre-halves has not been ruled out, despite the Old Trafford club operating with a limited transfer budget at this time.

Perhaps the name most linked with a Red Devils switch this summer is Jarrad Branthwaite. The Englishman felt like the top target at the start of the window, though negotiating with Everton was proving difficult. That’s their prerogative. They have no reason to sell unless their asking price is met.

It does seem as though United’s interest in Branthwaite has upset the applecart at Everton, though. According to the Daily Mail, the defender and United transfer target is ‘not intending’ on signing a new deal with Everton – unless they match the Reds’ contract offer.

That figure apparently sits at around £160k-a-week. United made an offer totalling £50m for Branthwaite earlier in the window, though Everton are holding out for a figure around the £70m mark.

The Englishman currently has three years left on his Goodison Park contract, worth £70k-a-week. Everton are ready to offer new terms in order to reflect Branthwaite’s importance to the side.

However, the player is refusing to put pen on paper unless the get close to matching United’s offer.

At this point, I’d be surprised if United could even afford to bring in Branthwaite this summer, now that they’ve spent big on Yoro. Unfortunately, the defender may have to sit tight at Goodison Park for at least another year.
