Jarrad Branthwaite ‘loved’ by Man United, as Reds make signing new centre-back a priority

Man United still have eyes on Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United Football Club continue to prepare for their first summer transfer window controlled by INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

It seems as if a centre-back, preferably a younger one, is among the Reds’ top priorities. It does make sense given Raphael Varane’s age, Lisandro Martinez’s injury record and Victor Lindelof continuing to get older.

Jarrad Branthwaite is undoubtedly one of the players being eyed. It makes sense for a variety of reasons. He’s young, classes as a homegrown player and only getting better.

Now, TEAMtalk have provided an update on the Englishman’s future. They claim that United are plotting a ‘stunning double raid’ on Everton, including Branthwaite and Amadou Onana.

Focusing in on Branthwaite, it’s written that the 21-year-old Premier League defender is ‘loved’ by United, with Everton expecting bids for both he and Onana during the upcoming window. The Toffees have slapped an £80m price tag on both.

It’d be a large chunk of the budget, while the Old Trafford club will want to curb their spending under INEOS, it’s a deal that has real longevity. Branthwaite is someone who could sit at the heart of our defence for the next decade-plus.

The cost could eventually come down, too, with Everton still in genuine relegation danger after their ten point deduction. There’s no way Branthwaite would want to play at least a season of Championship football, so their hand could be forced.

The issue for United is that I’d be surprised if they’re the only interested party. They could face heavy competition for Branthwaite – from fellow Premier League clubs and even from further afield.
