Jesse Lingard has been cut from the core squad at Man United, with Amad Diallo to be added.
To his credit, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t shied away from making the difficult decisions at Old Trafford. He’s swung the axe on more than one occasion, replacing sub-par players with genuine quality.
That’s exactly why we’re in the position we are. Sure, we’ve always had talent at United, it’s just that there was an awful lot of bang-average players in the mix, too. Now, this squad is in a nice position.
However, there are still minor tweaks and changes to be made. Jesse Lingard is the latest who’ll be given the boot, or so it seems…
The story comes from the Manchester Evening News, who state that the 28-year-old United man has been cut from the core squad, with 18-year-old starlet, Amad Diallo, set to be added.
First and foremost, I feel sorry for Lingard. He’s been a great servant to United and has scored some rather memorable goals in his time here.
However, you’re only as good as your last game and the fact of the matter is Lingard hasn’t been good enough for a while now. His departure always felt like an inevitability, with Solskjaer seemingly planning for that to happen in the not too distant future.
At this stage, you feel like a move away in this January window is best for all involved. Let Lingard go out somewhere and play football, because that’s what he deserves.
As for Diallo, this kid is an exciting talent who has bags of potential. We need to give him time to settle in, though, before we all become too expectant.
