Jesse Lingard has backed Jadon Sancho and claimed he just needs time to adapt.
Over the summer, Manchester United spent big to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. It had been a transfer that was at least a couple of years in the making, with the Red Devils excited as they finally landed their man.
Sancho’s talent has been on full display over in Germany. His goals, assists, direct play and silky style. Us supporters had every right to be thrilled at this move.
However, Sancho’s start hasn’t been as fruitful as we’d all have liked. The Englishman has registered no goals or assists while during his first few games, the winger looked pretty disappointing.
Last time out, Sancho showed glimpses of his capabilities. He looked sharp against Everton during a cameo. Now, Jesse Lingard has leaped to the defence of his new United teammate, before claiming Sancho is ‘only going to get better’.
Check out what Lingard had to say here:
“I think it’s going to take some time to adapt.” Lingard said, per The Sun.
“Jadon’s been around long enough, he knows football inside out and the Premier League can be tough.
“He’s adapting. We’ve seen glimpses. He’s only going to get better.
“We have full confidence and hope in Jadon to succeed.”
I think that we all underestimated how Sancho would need time to adapt. He’s not really played in the Premier League despite starting his career here in England.
Factor in his struggles over the summer while away with England and I guess we should’ve expected a somewhat slower start. Sancho is gradually getting back up to speed, building his confidence and looking sharper with each passing game.
United have no right to be worried at this point, while the dressing room is obviously fully behind their new addition. Sancho will no doubt be impressing everyone in training, which is a good place to be in. There’s nothing like having the utmost respect from your peers.
At the end of the day, Sancho just needs time. It’s up to us supporters to give him every little bit of that to succeed. We have a top bunch of fans here at United and we respect the talent of players so there’s absolutely no concerns in that regard.
Sancho will come good sooner rather than later, I have the utmost confidence in that.
