Manchester United are a club renowned all over the world for giving youngsters a chance. From the Class of 92, to Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard, homegrown lads have always been given their opportunity. More often than not, these talents have shined and it’s great to watch.
The aforementioned Lingard has been one of Jose Mourinho’s go-to players this season, with the homegrown product really acquitting himself well for the most part. We’ve all seen first-hand just how good his movement is, and my, this lad loves a huge goal at Wembley.
Now 24, he’s improving all the time and he had some very kind words to say about his manager. He has claimed the having Mourinho at the helm has improved his consistency and confidence – two vital ingredients, if a player has any aspirations to reach the very top.
When asked by Inside United about how he feels he has improved under Jose Mourinho this season, Lingard responded:
“Confidence and, I think, consistency. These are the main two areas that are vitally important. The manager stresses the importance of consistency and the need to impress him week in, week out. You have to be 100 percent all the time.”
Some portions of the crowd aren’t great admirers of Lingard’s and that pains me for a couple of reasons. First of all, he absolutely adores this club and every single time he steps over that white line, he plays his heart out.
On top of that, he’s a super useful squad player to have. He makes intelligent runs, defends diligently and does pop up with a huge goal here or there. In my opinion, it makes a whole lot of sense to keep him around because he offers an awful lot in certain scenarios.
