Jesse Lingard has told Manchester United he’d like to leave unless he’s given the chance to play games.

The Englishman has been at Manchester United for over two decades now, since he was six years old. However, Jesse Lingard’s time at Old Trafford could be drawing to a close.

Just a week or so ago, we covered a claim which stated Lingard’s agents were exploring loan options away from the Theatre of Dreams. Those stories certainly seem to have some truth to them if this latest report is to be believed…

Lingard has made just two appearances for United this season. He’s yet to play in Europe or in the Premier League, with those minutes coming in the Carabao Cup. So it’s understandable why the Englishman isn’t currently happy with his situation.

Well, according to the usually reliable Jonathan Shrager, the 28-year-old United star Lingard has ‘made it clear’ he wants game time, or else he’d like to leave.

Check out Shrager’s tweet on the situation here:

Under Jose Mourinho, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Lingard looked like a player in the upper echelons of football. However, it’s been a pretty rapid decline over the last few years.

Lingard is now struggling to make matchday squads for United, nevermind getting out on the field. He’s approaching that stage in his career where a big decision has to be made. Although it’ll be sad to see him walk away from his beloved Red Devils, it does feel like the best move for all involved.

As Shrager says, there is interest in Lingard from all across the continent. He’s an excellent player who’ll find a home. Hopefully, he’ll join a club that allows him to play regularly and get back to his best.

Once a Red, always a Red. Lingard will go down in history as a long-term United player and that will never change. The timing just feels right for everyone in this situation to part ways.
