Man United have eyes on SL Benfica’s Joao Neves.

Manchester United have conducted some positive transfer business under Erik ten Hag, with the squad now nicely starting to take shape. However, there’s still plenty of work to do.

Planning for next January and next summer will already be well underway, with the gaffer looking to further improve the situation. One of the names already somewhat heavily linked with a potential Old Trafford switch is Joao Neves, who plies his trade for SL Benfica.

Now, Florian Plettenberg has provided an update on the situation. He states that the talented 19-year-old has emerged as a ‘potential transfer target’ for United. This would be a summer deal rather than a winter one, with Neves ‘on the list’ for the Red Devils for a long period of time.

The Reds will not have it all their own way, with more ‘top clubs’ monitoring the player.

Check out Florian Plettenberg’s tweet on the news here:

Whenever we’re linked with a player from Portugal, I’m always pretty happy. United have an excellent track record when buying players from that league, so I’m more than pleased to see the club go down that route again.

Neves is a super talented footballer. There’s no denying that. However, he’d need time to settle into his new surroundings in Manchester, meaning our expectations would likely be too high from day one.

That said, it could be a good piece of business if United could somehow pull it off.
