Jones, Rojo, not expected to return from injury until January

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo won’t return from injury until the new year.

Manchester United Football Club have a chance at moving into second place in the Premier League, provided they can win both of their games in hand. That’s easier said than done, mind, particularly when the fixture list looks so congested.

Well, we now know two players who won’t be featuring at all during the festive period; Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo.

The defensive pairing haven’t played a single game for the Red Devils this season, despite taking home literally millions of pounds since the 2020/21 term kicked off. Both have spent far more time on the treatment table than out on the Old Trafford pitch. Why break the habit of that lifetime now, huh…?

Solskjaer would confirm the double injury blow during his pre-match press conference, with both Jones and Rojo not expected to be back fit until January…

Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:

“Marcos has just felt a niggle in his calf again. He’s worked really hard to come back, he played a game with the Reserves and got a knock there. Worked really hard again, then felt something. He’s hopefully back in January, Marcos.” Solskjaer told reporters, including ManUtd.com.

“Phil [Jones] should be ready by January and Sergio [Romero] has been training hard as well.”

Let’s not beat around the bush here, the sooner these guys are away from Old Trafford the better. Neither have shown the consistency which is required at the highest level.

I have no sympathy with United though. They’ve continued to hand these guys big-money contracts to try and protect the value of the players. When in reality, they were never going to achieve that value as neither player has ever been able to justify their massive weekly wages.

All United can do is hope a club will take Rojo or Jones off them in some sort of cut-price deal, or more likely let them leave on loan. Even in that scenario, though, United will be out of pocket as they’ll still have to cough up a percentage of their wages.
