Jonny Evans set to be missing for a month due to injury

Manchester United’s defensive woes are set to continue, as Jonny Evans has been ruled out of action for around a month, according to the Daily Mail. The Irishman tweaked his ankle in United’s shock 5-3 defeat away at Leicester City on Sunday, as Louis van Gaal’s side continue to show that inconsistent which needs to be eradicated quickly.

Evans is the most senior defender in Manchester United’s squad, but at just 26 he’s nowhere near the peak of his powers as a centre-back. Injury problems have always hampered his career, and he usually misses a good chunk of action every season due to being sidelined.

This must be a growing concern for the United hierarchy, because all of our centre-backs seem to be so injury prone. The likes of Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling all seem to get injured on a regular basis, and this season it’ll be highlighted even more after the club sold Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

You also have to factor in young Tyler Blackett, who rather unfortunately picked up a red card at the weekend, leaving United extremely thin on the ground in terms of centre-backs as a visit from West Ham looms.
