As we all know, Manchester United Football Club signed Romelu Lukaku from Everton in a big-money move. It was always clear that Jose Mourinho was going to bring in a new striker, following the decision that Zlatan Ibrahimovic would leave on a free transfer.
One man that Mourinho also looked at was Alexandre Lacazette, according to a report from the Daily Express. However, Manchester United chose not to sign him for a number of reasons that don’t particularly make for great reading if you’re an Arsenal fan (whom he ended up signing for).
They claim a United source told them that the Old Trafford club were keeping an eye on the Frenchman, but looked elsewhere because he has no stamina, no physical impact, isn’t a big game player and a large portion of his goals were penalties…
“Lacazette was followed because he was top scorer in French football – but a lot of his goals were penalties [10 of his 28 goals last season came from the spot].” A United source told the Daily Express.
“In the end, he wasn’t considered because he has no stamina, no physical impact and isn’t a big-game player.”
This really doesn’t cover Lacazette in a whole lot of glory as we approach the start of a new campaign. Especially when you consider that the 26-year-old cost The Gunners a huge £52.7million.
Personally, whenever I’ve watched him, Lacazette seems to drift in and out of games but he definitely knows where the back of the net is.
I’m all for these leaks coming out because it gives us something to talk about, but you can bet your life on the fact that the former Lyon man will give that extra 10% against Manchester United when the two sides meet next season.
