Jose Mourinho confirms big injury blow as important Man United midfielder injured

Manchester United picked up their first tour victory in the early hours of Thursday morning, beating AC Milan (albeit on penalties). The Red Devils played a whole out better against the Serie A giants, hopefully, the team will grow from here on out.

However, eyebrows were raised when Nemanja Matic didn’t take to the field. The Serbia international has linked up with his teammates on pre-season tour following his World Cup exploits, but for some reason, the ex-Chelsea man didn’t play.

Now we know why, with Jose Mourinho confirming that the midfielder has picked up an injury; although we’re not entirely sure what the problem is, and how long he’ll be out for still remains a mystery.

“The important thing for me is with the group of players we have – and losing already Valencia and Matic – even worse to play against Milan’s best team and to play the way we did and get the result that could be even better than it was I think was good.” Mourinho is quoted as saying per The Peoples Person.

In terms of importance, I find it tough to think of too many names more valuable than Matic. He’s the glue that keeps our midfield together, and for him to be so valuable after just twelve months is a testament to his ability.

We’re talking about probably the most underrated midfielder in the country. His willingness to do the dirty-work, get stuck in and play a defensive-minded game is a rare commodity, he’ll always chip in with a goal or two, as well. Just ask Crystal Palace…
