Jose Mourinho confirms injury blow in dying embers of Manchester derby

Manchester United came away from the Etihad with a hard-earned point on Thursday night, largely thanks to some excellent defending from all of the back four. The match as a whole was a rather dull affair, but in the end, a point for both was definitely the correct result.

City pressed and pressed, had large portions of the ball but couldn’t create anything clear-cut. At the end of the day, it’s all about putting the ball in the back of the net and neither side never looked like doing that.

In the dying embers, Timothy Fosu-Mensah came on as we looked to see out the match after Marouane Fellaini saw Red, but now, it looks as though the Dutchman could now be injured and Mourinho doesn’t sound thrilled about it at all…

‘He is injured, he is really injured in the last action of the game, in the last tackle,’ said Mourinho, as per The Metro. ‘He was on the floor and he is also an important injury.’

It has just summed up our last few weeks. The results have been positive but the injuries are slowly but surely stacking up. With Marcos Rojo out for the long-term, along with both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, I was praying that Fosu-Mensah was going to get his opportunity, but it hasn’t materialised and now he’s out injured.

The player himself must be hurting, particularly after playing so many games at the back end of last season – whilst acquitting himself excellently, too. This campaign, Fosu-Mensah hasn’t even played in the cup matches so perhaps a loan move away next season may be in his best interests.
