Manchester United have struggled for goals recently. Jose Mourinho is struggling to get the best tune out of his players.
So-much-so that, according to the usually excellent ESPN, the self-proclaimed Special One is considering making a move to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to Old Trafford.
The now 37-year-old left United in January as he headed to the MLS following that horrific knee injury. He’s doing pretty well across the pond, but as he knows, playing in the Premier League is a completely different kettle of fish.
That’s not to say he isn’t an outstanding footballer. He is. However, I’m just not sure whether he has it in him to play week-in-week-out at the highest level anymore.
He left United a hero. Why come back and risk tarnishing that? The only two trophies won under Mourinho were in Zlatan’s debut season. Although he didn’t play in the Europa League final, he was instrumental in us reaching the Stockholm showpiece. He’ll always go down as an iconic figure of this club, and of the sport in general.
Romelu Lukaku may be struggling, but I’d much prefer United to give Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial or Alexis Sanchez a go through the middle. Why bring Ibrahimovic back at this point? I just don’t see the logic in it.
