Manchester United Football Club are in a slight predicament at the moment, with Jose Mourinho seemingly losing control of the dressing room.
After a poor summer transfer window, the self-proclaimed Special One could already be looking at making his winter window moves. Now, according to a recent report, a shock name has entered the fray.
The rumour comes from The Sun, per The Metro, who say that Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has emerged as a potential transfer target for United.
Apparently, the Red Devils manager will ‘monitor’ Cahill’s situation over the next few months as he considers making a move for the man who he has previously worked with; when the January transfer window rolls around.
It’s pretty obvious that United’s biggest issue right now is the centre-back slot. Eric Bailly has started the season poorly, as has Phil Jones. Mourinho needs a leader back there, he’ll know exactly what Cahill is capable of.
At 32, his best years are well and truly behind him, but sometimes, there is more to football than skill. It’s that veteran presence that the club are looking at. That’s a role Cahill would be more than able to fill – albeit in the short-term.
