Manchester United want to snatch Alexis Sanchez from under the noses of Manchester City, reports The Sun. Apparently, Jose Mourinho is desperate to make the deal happen, with the Red Devils quoted a figure of £25million to land the star Chilean in January.
The money involved sounds so cheap because Sanchez, 28, is out of contract next summer, and January will be the only time that The Gunners will be able to get cash back for the attacker – or risk losing him for free come the end of the season.
Of course, City were close to signing Sanchez on transfer deadline day, but in the end, a deal couldn’t be done in time and now the former FC Barcelona man has to remain at The Emirates for the next few months at least.
Now, the player holds all the cards, and it’d make perfect sense to try and land him if you were Mourinho. In the end, it always comes down to money, and if we stick enough of that on the table, I’m sure he’d choose red over blue.
I cannot help but think this would be a Robin van Persie-esque signing. Sanchez is the type of player who could make all the difference in any title race – that’s just how good of a footballer he is. I’m just praying that the Mourinho factor is enough to get a deal done.
