Manchester United Football Club picked up another all-important victory over the weekend, as they look to keep the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the table.
Jose Mourinho’s men won 2-1, thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard. The former scored his second goal in two outings, as he looks to return to form following a horrendous display in the Manchester derby.
People were left puzzled when Lukaku, 24, didn’t celebrate his goal after finding the back of the net with an inch-perfect header, and Mourinho has explained why.
Geoff Shreeves asked the gaffer why he thinks Lukaku didn’t celebrate, and the self-proclaimed Special One put it down to the fact that the Belgian used to play for The Baggies.
“I didn’t celebrate too. Nobody was happier than me, it’s just a question of profile.” Mourinho responded, per Sky Sports News.
“I am happy, I’m happy with the victory. But 15 years ago I look at myself celebrating goals and now I feel a little ashamed with that, but with maturity, you go into levels where you control your emotions better. Unless, I repeat, you score a winning goal in the last stage of a game.
“Also, I think Romelu had the fact that he was a happy kid at West Brom. He was a kid that was given all the conditions here to have the evolution he had. So probably in the back of his mind is that love for the club.”
I suppose it makes sense. Lukaku obviously doesn’t want to upset the fans who were so great with him during his loan spell there, but, I don’t think it was solely due to the fact that he played for WBA.
He didn’t celebrate when he scored against AFC Bournemouth either. Honestly, I think it’s because he means business and he was disappointed with himself against City. Lukaku is trying to right the wrongs of that game, and I absolutely love that mindset. He’s perfect for Manchester United Football Club, we just need to keep backing our man.
