Manchester United Football Club have been known to produce young talents and turn them into absolute world-beaters.
Arguably the biggest success story in recent years is Cristiano Ronaldo. The man, who United signed from Sporting Lisbon, was up there amongst the best players in the world within five years.
He’s been sat at the pinnacle of the sport for the last decade. Over the summer, he was to leave Real Madrid, with United interested in bringing Ronaldo home. Obviously, that move didn’t happen. Now, Jose Mourinho has lifted the lid on exactly why.
“Cristiano was never on my table to say yes or no to Cristiano to come to us,” said Mourinho, per ESPN. “It was never on the table.”
Honestly, I think it was the correct decision. We all love Ronaldo, but a return would be better from an emotional standpoint rather than a football one.
The man from Portugal isn’t getting any younger. Imagine if we broke the bank to sign him and he picked up a serious, potentially career-threatening injury? That obviously wouldn’t end well for all involved. It would have been a huge risk bringing him back.
Instead, let’s focus on nurturing future stars. We have Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and others coming through the ranks at the moment. Let’s put all our attention into those guys.
