Jose Mourinho extremely frustrated as top transfer target chose to sign for rival club: report

Manchester United’s summer transfer window actually started pretty well, with Jose Mourinho sealing deals for Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant in quick succession.

However, when the World Cup started, the Red Devils’ dealings halted. No new player was signed, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying.

According to Blick, per Team Talk, the self-proclaimed Special One was left extremely frustrated as his transfer target, Xherdan Shaqiri, opted to move to our fierce rivals Liverpool instead.

Apparently, the Old Trafford club never got to the talking stage, with Jurgen Klopp’s side completing a deal before United even made contact with the Switzerland international. This just highlights what a sorry state of affairs United are in at the moment…

Right-wing has been a real problem area for United over the last year or two. Shaqiri, at £12million no-less, would have given the club another option. Sure, he’s a largely inconsistent player, but at that price it was certainly worth the risk?

He’s quick, and I’d much prefer to see him out there than Juan Mata. Although the Spaniard is a good player, he’s far better through the middle rather than being stuck out on the wing. That problem has already been highlighted during our opening game against Leicester City…
