Phil Jones has turned into the forgotten man over the last twelve months, due to a whole host of injuries that have hampered his career. With many fans losing patience in the Englishman, it doesn’t seem that Jose Mourinho feels the same way, and Jones will get his big chance under the Portuguese manager.
The Daily Mirror say that Jose Mourinho sees Phil Jones as a real key part of his plans going forward, and even said that he could be as influential for him as John Terry was for Chelsea.
This is a massive confidence booster for Jones, who now has to take this opportunity with both hands. The key thing for him has to be his fitness, and if he can work on that and continue to develop, we could still see him and Chris Smalling make a real solid pairing at the heart of defence.
If true, it does probably mean that Jose won’t be bringing in any more centre-backs during this window. Unless he decides to sell Daley Blind or shift him back into midfield.
