Manchester United Football Club could have just made their first big decision over the summer, according to the Independent. They say that Jose Mourinho has offered Michael Carrick a one-year extension at Old Trafford.
This is great news. Manchester United haven’t got that much experience and know-how in their current squad, and Jose Mourinho has probably identified that.
He has realised that Carrick is one just a few senior figures at Old Trafford, and letting him leave on a free transfer would have been disastrous. Now it looks as though he has been given another twelve months at the club which under the current situation is essential.
We all know that Jose Mourinho is a manager who isn’t afraid of making those big choices. It might not feel like it, but keeping Michael Carrick is a gamble. However it is the best thing to do.
Even if he only plays a handful of league games for the club, the experience he brings to the dressing room is worth his weekly wage on its own.
