Well, I guess it was only a matter of time before this rumour turned out to be true, eh?
The story comes from The Independent, who in a long-form article about Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur, offer a snippet of transfer news.
It involves Manchester United star Nemanja Matic, who has apparently been name-checked by Jose Mourinho to Daniel Levy, as a potential Tottenham Hotspur transfer target. Two other Reds transfer targets over the last twelve months, Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Dias, have also both been mentioned…
Matic has already been signed twice by Mourinho during his time in England. Why not make it a hat-trick?
The 31-year-old has dropped below Scott McTominay in the pecking order, and although the 22-year-old is currently out injured, the Scotland international is the go-to option when fit. That isn’t changing anytime soon.
When you factor in Matic’s winding down contract, the January window is the last time that the Reds would be able to sell the Serb for an actual transfer fee. Now the article doesn’t put a timeframe on when Mourinho is planning on making the Matic deal happen, but the sooner the better, right?
Hopefully, Spurs come in with a suitable offer early enough in the January window to allow the Reds to replace Matic. If not, well, I guess he’ll head to North London for free next summer…
