Manchester United Football Club takes on Newcastle United away from home this weekend, with St James’ Park being somewhat of a trouble ground for Jose Mourinho, as he’s never won there in the Premier League.
Ahead of that match, the self-proclaimed Special One met the media to discuss all things football, including the turn around in form from Luke Shaw. Before the turn of the year, it looked for all the world that the 22-year-old may well have been sold in January.
However, the Englishman has been sensational over the last few months and he’s managed to steer clear of the injury table. That has led Mourinho to make a huge prediction about his future.
“He made a big effort. He is now, for a few months, free of these minor injuries which sometimes stop evolution and I am really happy.” Mourinho is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“I think the natural consequence of it is he will have his contract and he will be a Manchester United player for years.”
Shaw is comfortably the most talented full-back at Old Trafford and that hasn’t changed. His problem is that he’s been plagued with injuries, which led to Mourinho losing his trust in the former Southampton man.
Slowly but surely, Shaw is regaining the confidence from the manager and he’s already back there amongst the elite left-backs in the country. Keeping him here makes perfect sense, as his performances are only going to get better as his fitness levels improve.
