Jose Mourinho would consider selling several members of his first-team squad this summer, following a poor 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.
That’s according to The Independent, per the Daily Express, who say that the only players Mourinho definitely wants to keep are David de Gea, Ashley Young, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.
Firstly, that means star players like Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are on the chopping block, which could spell bad news for some household names when the transfer window finally opens.
In all honesty, I’m not surprised. We’ve a whole host of players within the squad that simply put, just aren’t good enough. However, I would be shocked if Mourinho let Rashford leave the Theatre of Dreams any time soon.
At some point, though, you have to look directly at the manager. He controls these players, and Mourinho has been working when them day in day out for almost two years now. Only a select few have improved under his guidance which is somewhat of a concern.
That’s not to say I think he’s no longer the right man for the job, because I do. I just think he has to take some of the flak for what’s unfolding at the moment.
