Jose Mourinho passed up on top striker after negative scouting comments: report

Jose Mourinho passed up on the opportunity to sign now-Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette, after negative scouting reports, according to The Metro.

The self-proclaimed Special One weighed up moves for both Lacazette and Alvaro Morata, before eventually settling on a deal for Romelu Lukaku; who’s having a great debut season at Old Trafford.

Apparently, the aforementioned reports stated that the French striker wouldn’t be physically equipped to deal with Premier League football, and during his short spell at Arsenal, that certainly has proven to be the case. The Red Devils officials also had concerns that 11 of his 37 goals were penalties, which could be seen as somewhat misleading.

Lukaku is enjoying success at United, in fact, the 24-year-old has outscored both Morata and Lacazette combined. I guess the fact that Arsenal have since splashed the cash on another forward (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang), that tells you everything you need to know about just how poorly the former Lyon man has done.

I’d certainly say we’ve dodged a bullet here, and Mourinho deserves credit. He doesn’t often get praise for his transfer dealings, but more often than not, they tend to work out wonderfully and he’s played another blinder here.
