As we all know, Victor Lindelof struggled at the start of his Manchester United career. It was always going to take the young defender time to adapt to his new surroundings, particularly while playing for one of the biggest club in the world.
However, recently, the one they call The Iceman has been much improved. He was superb against Brighton at the weekend, and he followed that up with an equally impressive display against Watford.
Following the game on Tuesday night, Jose Mourinho met the media and discussed. Lindelof. He praised the Swede for dealing with the tricky Richarlison, while also adding it was a very positive performance.
“I think Richarlison is a very good player and a difficult player to play against but Victor is very fast,” Mourinho told MUTV, per Sky Sports News.
“He has adapted to play centrally but also to go to the sides because he’s got the agility that many of the central defenders don’t have. I think it was another very positive performance by Victor.”
I must admit, I had already begun writing him off, but I should know better. Mourinho is one of the best managers when it comes to buying players in the transfer market, and all it needed was a little time and an arm around the shoulder.
Lindelof never once let the poor performances get him down. He just kept working hard, putting in a shift on the training ground and now that is paying off in the heat of battle. With Phil Jones and Eric Bailly out injured his emergence couldn’t have been any more timely, and let’s hope he continues to improve and grow
