Jose Mourinho is ready to use Anthony Martial as bait, in order to land Ivan Rakitic of FC Barcelona. That’s what The Sun writes, as they cite reports in Spain.
They reckon that Mourinho would be alright to let Martial leave the Theatre of Dreams in order to bring in another central midfielder – an area that he feels lacks depth, particularly following injuries to both Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini.
Rakitic, 29, is an experienced central midfielder, but I feel this is a deal that just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for Manchester United.
Martial is young and he has the world at his feet. On top of that, the former AS Monaco man has started this season in simply scintillating form. He’s made an impact both as a starter and off of the substitutes bench – and his record when it comes to goals and assists just cannot be argued with.
If I’m FC Barcelona, I’d snap your hand off to secure Martial in a deal for Rakitic. It just wouldn’t be good business sense for United, unless they were asking for a colossal amount of money from the Catalan side as part of the deal. Even then, though, I wouldn’t be happy if the move went through…
