Manchester United Football Club have been without the services of both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo since December, when the pair suffered ligament damage in the same game against RSC Anderlecht. Although we knew the duo would be out for a long period, no actual timeframe was put on a return.
Now, the self-proclaimed Special One was speaking to the media ahead of the pre-season Manchester derby, and given us a month in which we can expect the Argentine centre-half back in action.
The gaffer claims that the Red Devils have four players out injured at present, before adding that the recovery time for some of them is long, specifically Rojo, who won’t be back until December.
“We have four players who can’t even train now,” Jose tells the media, as per Manchester United’s official Twitter account. “The recovery time is long. Rojo, no chance before December, for example.”
That’s an eight-month layoff for the 27-year-old and that’s a tough blow to take if you’re Mourinho. The former Sporting Lisbon star turned into a real asset towards the end of the season, and he was one of the players that really improved their game under the new coaching regime.
When you learn that he’ll be missing the first half of the campaign, you suddenly understand exactly why the club decided to make a move for Victor Lindelof from SL Benfica – particularly given the fact that we’ll be competing in the Champions League next season, meaning we’ll need all the bodies we can get.
