Manchester United Football Club’s preparations for the new Premier League season are well underway. Jose Mourinho’s men have started their pre-season form in excellent fashion, winning all their games thus far, and looking convincing in the process.
However, behind the scenes, Edward Woodward and Mourinho will still be working to push more transfers over the line. Obviously, to date, we’ve seen both Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof come through the Old Trafford doors.
Now, Mourinho has been speaking to the media ahead of our game against FC Barcelona, and confirmed that he’d still like two more additions. Furthermore, he’s also named the positions in which he’d like to invest in; the midfield role and a winger.
“I am happy with my squad but I would like to have two more players,” Jose said to the official website. “One player would be a midfield player that would give me more options and more balance to the team. Another one would be an attacking player – especially that can play through the wings to give me more attacking options.”
For me, these two positions certainly need the most attention. Although we have real quality in both of these spots, we lack a strength in depth and if we were to pick up a few injuries, we’d be in huge trouble.
However, I’d also like to see a left-back come in. I think it’s fair to say that in the modern game it is such a key area of the field – and I genuinely couldn’t tell you who our first choice option is.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Luke Shaw but he’s always injured which is a huge concern. Then, we have Daley Blind who isn’t quick enough, and Matteo Darmian who is predominantly a right-back.
Anyway, I guess it is now down to Woodward to finalise two more signings as quickly as possible, giving the new players time to integrate and adapt to Manchester United’s tactics.
