Manchester United will be preparing for a big January transfer window, particularly after the debacle that took place over the summer.
The latest name to be linked with a potential United move is Belgium international, Axel Witsel.
Het Laatste Nieuws, per the Manchester Evening News, is claiming that Jose Mourinho personally scouted the 29-year-old during the most recent international break; contrary to reports which suggested that the self-proclaimed Special One was there to watch Toby Alderweireld.
My first thoughts to this news is why not go after both? Defensively, United have been a mess, while at times our midfield has been nonexistent.
As for Witsel, he’s having an excellent season with Borussia Dortmund – who currently sit atop the Bundesliga table. If they’re still there when January rolls around, I’d have my doubts about him wanting to leave for a side struggling in the Premier League…
In terms of a transfer fee, Mourinho would apparently offer Dortmund a profit on the £17million they paid to sign Witsel over the summer, but I can’t help but feel this could end up being Nemanja Matic 2.0.
We’d probably get a good year out of Witsel before he rapidly began to decline. Then, we’d be back at square one… It’s a tough decision to make, but right now, anything is better than what we have.
