Jose Mourinho is searching for three signings in January, to significantly strengthen the playing squad going into the second-half of the season. That’s what the Daily Mail writes, who adds that he wants two full-backs, as well as an attacking midfielder.
The report says that United have told agents to be on the lookout for these specific problem positions, with the Old Trafford club wanting to sign all three before the end of the month; which seems like a huge task in my opinion.
What’s great is that it certainly seems like the Manchester United board are getting behind Mourinho and giving him the funds necessary to compete with Manchester City, who look to be running away with it at the moment.
My issue comes with the fact that it’s notoriously difficult to buy players in the mid-season window, but United want three? I highly doubt that’ll happen.
It comes as no secret that the left-back spot has been a real struggle, probably ever since Patrice Evra left the club, and although Luke Shaw is playing well right now, perhaps it’s a little too late. I love Antonio Valencia, but he’s approaching the latter end of his career so sorting out a long-term replacement for him makes sense. Finally, we have the attacking midfielder issue, which goes without saying. United need to improve their quality in the final third.
