Jose Mourinho is set to be handed a colossal £200million war chest to invest in the Manchester United playing squad. That’s according to The Sun, per the Manchester Evening News.
The self-proclaimed Special One is hoping to close the gap on rivals Manchester City next season, and another huge transfer window could certainly go an awfully long way in doing exactly that.
In the report, The Sun says that Mourinho will be working directly with Edward Woodward this summer in order to acquire the exact transfer targets that he wants, with Spurs duo Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld on the list, amongst others, including Celtic’s Kieran Tierney.
I think one key area that needs a significant amount of work doing to it is the back line. Left-back has been a long-standing issue, as has finding a partner for Eric Bailly.
Then you have to address the midfield. Marouane Fellaini is yet to commit to a new contract, whereas we’ll be losing Michael Carrick, who’ll be hanging up his boots at the end of the campaign.
It’s all well and good spending huge money, but on top of that, it has to be spent wisely. Bringing in the wrong players has been a fault of United managers since Sir Alex Ferguson left, but we have to trust Mourinho to get it right.
