Manchester United are looking to significantly strengthen their midfield in the summer, with Jose Mourinho eyeing deals for two world-class central players.
According to The Independent, the club have made Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Fred their primary targets for the upcoming transfer period.
The Red Devils will be losing Michael Carrick as he’s hanging up his boots, whereas Marouane Fellaini’s long-term future at Old Trafford remains up in the air.
Milinkovic-Savic is currently plying his trade for Lazio in the Serie A, and he’s been at the heart of an excellent season for the Italian side. His energy in a midfield three alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic would be something special. He’d likely cost a pretty penny though.
Fred is a player that I don’t know much about, aside from the fact that he’s been constantly linked with a move to either Manchester club. When two European powerhouses show an interest, it says a lot about the talents you possess.
I think it’s clear that United will bring in at least one top-class midfielder this summer, but if we can get two it’d certainly signal Mourinho’s intent. Whatever happens, it’s going to be an intriguing transfer period.
