Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of Real Madrid players this summer. First up, we had Alvaro Morata rumours, then we had reports of a potential move for James Rodriguez. Next in line, Mateo Kovacic, according to Don Balon, as per the Daily Express.
The report says that United are hoping to wrap up a deal for Morata, and then pursue a move for Croatian midfielder Kovacic. Jose Mourinho is attempting to prise the 23-year-old away from Zinedine Zidane’s grasp, but it may be tough as Madrid have no intention of selling.
Kovacic took part in 27 league games last season which is a decent amount, although plenty of his minutes would have come from off the bench. However, he’s at an age where learning is the most important thing for his career, and no bout he’s growing as a player every single day.
I like him and I think Kovacic would be a wonderful signing, but I just don’t see Madrid selling us two of their players in the same transfer window. Particularly the Croat, because he hasn’t really expressed a desire to leave.
For now, we should look at sorting out a deal for Morata, before pre-season tour begins on Sunday. Then, after that, we could look elsewhere.
