Jose Mourinho has urged Manchester United chiefs to sign FC Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto, per the Daily Star. The English media outlet quote Don Balon, who suggest that the self-proclaimed Special One is a big admirer of the Spaniard.
Roberto apparently has a £36million buy-out clause in his current contract at the Camp Nou, which is a relatively low amount given some of the transfer fees that we’ve seen recently.
The versatile FC Barcelona star has been forced to play in the right-back slot of late, which he’s apparently unhappy with. Roberto sees himself more as a central midfielder, and perhaps a move to the Theatre of Dreams would give him that option.
I like Roberto and I think it’d be an astute signing. We’ve had some injury issues in midfield in recent weeks, but my worry for him would be that, when everyone is fit, where does he play? I’m certain he doesn’t beat Paul Pogba out of the team and the same can be said for Nemanja Matic. He’ll also have to battle with Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick…
At 25, his best years would almost certainly be ahead of him, but it could be a gamble to bring Roberto in.
