Jose Mourinho wants in demand defender to stay at club, will have to ask to leave: report

Manchester United Football Club have been rather quiet in terms of transfer market activity so far this season. However, one man who has been heavily linked with a move away is Matteo Darmian. Although, if he wants to go, it won’t be easy.

That’s because ESPN and their sources claim that the 27-year-old will have to ask the club to let him leave; because Jose Mourinho, quite clearly, wants to keep ahold of Darmian if possible.

Signed by Louis van Gaal, the Italy international made a brilliant start to life as a Red Devil, but slowly but surely drifted off the pace. Jose Mourinho then took charge, and although Darmian didn’t start out as a regular member of the line-up, he forced his way into things – probably because of his versatility.

That led to him starting the Europa League final in the left-back slot, and he did a brilliant job. In my opinion, that display is probably why he is attracting interest from the likes of both Juventus and Inter Milan, and a move back home has to be quite a tempting option for him.

For me though, we have to do all we can to keep him. This is a guy who can slot in seamlessly pretty much anywhere across the back four when required, and when he’s on form, he is a real asset to our squad.
