Another bad weekend is in the books for Manchester United. Jose Mourinho’s men were easily beaten 3-1 by West Ham away from home, while Tottenham, Manchester City and Arsenal all picked up three points.
It was another lethargic display from the Red Devils from start to finish. In fact, the visiting team never looked like scoring. It was an afternoon to forget for everyone – particularly the manager, who got his team selection horrendously wrong.
Choosing Scott McTominay to start at the heart of the defence was never going to work. It was the young Scot’s first start of the season. Out of position no less. He looked shaky from the get-go. He was supposed to help sure things up, instead, things got even worse.
In the wake of the result, the media is having their say on the self-proclaimed Special One. Match of the Day’s Alan Shearer is amongst them. He reckons that the man from Portugal will lose his job…
“I think Mourinho will lose his job,” Shearer is quoted as saying by The Independent.
“I can’t see him turning it around. They were hopeless from start to finish. Too slow, lethargic and very weak.”
As soon as you lose the dressing room, it’s over. Picking a fight with Paul Pogba could well be his downfall – although the Frenchman has been far from perfect this season.
With a game against Valencia just a few days away, I’d be surprised to see the trigger pulled before then. However, lose against Newcastle United, with an international break immediately following, then it could well be curtains.
