Manchester United Football Club have struggled to start the season. Jose Mourinho’s men are two wins from four, without really having a tough fixture list to start things off.
The fans have been disappointed. It stems from the poor summer transfer window. The on-pitch activities have already been affected as the pressure on Mourinho begins to build.
Our self-proclaimed Special One eased the tensions somewhat with a victory against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday, but according to Alan Shearer, he’s only delaying the inevitable.
The Newcastle legend believes Mourinho won’t last the season in the Old Trafford hot-seat, with Shearer expecting third-season syndrome to strike again.
“He also talked a while back about how maybe he should now be called the head coach and not the manager,” he said, per the Manchester Evening News live blog.
“That is also a dig at the vice-chairman, implying he has no control of the players he brings in or sells.
“I don’t think he is going to ride this out.”
Right now, I do think it’s 50/50 whether Mourinho sees next summer. That said, I don’t think it’s all his fault. The summer was horrendous, the manager should have been allowed to spend and invest in the squad.
Please don’t give me this, ‘well, be bought the centre-backs he’s trying to replace’ lark. Do you think Fergie ever made bad buys? Yes. Heck, even Pep Guardiola made poor decisions in bringing in both Nolito and Claudio Bravo. He was allowed to rectify those signings, though. Why shouldn’t Mourinho be given that opportunity?
