Manchester United Football Club lost the Manchester derby, as the team got out to an extremely slow start in the first half. Jose Mourinho got it wrong tactically, and chose to leave the pair of Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini massively outnumbered in the middle.
The self-proclaimed Special One chose to take a risk by handing a first start to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has shown plenty of promise throughout his first few substitute appearances so far.
However, the 27-year-old picked up an injury whilst on international duty with Armenia, and although Mourinho said he was fit enough to play, Italian journalist Gabriele Marcotti has claimed otherwise.
He has been told that Mkhitaryan wasn’t fully fit, and was due an MRI scan earlier today to assess the damage done whilst with his native Armenia.
This move just seems very unlike Jose Mourinho, who plans and prepares for every situation down to a tee. It’s an odd one, and an unnecessary risk to take when you have the likes of Juan Mata and Anthony Martial both fit and available.
Check out Gabriele Marcotti’s tweet here:
Told Mkhitaryan wasn’t fully fit. Injured on int’l duty, MRI tomorrow. Might help explain 1st half performance. #mufc
