Raphael Varane has suffered a hamstring injury, according to journalist Fredrik A. Flitvedt.

Manchester United picked up a hard-fought point on the road against Chelsea yesterday, with Erik ten Hag’s side good value for the draw.

The game was marred by an injury to Raphael Varane, who was down for several minutes, before finally getting to his feet. The pain was visible on his face, while it felt like a serious one as he covered his face, holding back tears.

When you see those sort of sights, you obviously begin to think the worst. Varane, a key player for club and country, picking up a serious problem on the eve of a World Cup. It’s just a sad situation.

Well, one journalist has offered an injury update on Varane, confirming that the affected area is actually his hamstring. At the time, it looked like an ankle issue, or possibly even a knee problem. Now we know it’s his hamstring giving him trouble, though the extent of the problem is not yet known.

Check out Fredrik A. Flivedt’s tweet here:

This is not to say that hamstring injuries aren’t serious – obviously, they can be pretty bad if it’s a complete tear, ruling out some players for multiple months.

However, I believe this is good news. It could have been a season-ender. I now have some confidence that we’ll see Varane play for his club again this season.

Now, about the World Cup, it’s probably going to be touch and go. It all depends on the severity of the issue. Hopefully, we’re given an official update by the club in the not-too-distant future.

Fingers crossed for you, Rapha.
