Journalist reckons Jose Mourinho’s treatment of star has seen him deteriorate

Manchester United unearthed an absolute gem of a player in February last season, when they handed a debut to Marcus Rashford. The man from Wythenshawe hasn’t looked back since and has been an integral part of proceedings at the Theatre of Dreams.

However, talkSPORT reporter Tony Cascarino has had his say on the ‘situation’ with the 19-year-old and added that he doesn’t look the way Jose Mourinho has handled him.

Personally, I find this a bit bizarre. Cascarino goes on about how Rashford hasn’t been given the chance to shine this season, but has still plaeyd in pretty much every game – the majority of which has been from the start.

“I don’t like the way he’s handled Marcus Rashford. I just thought – start of the season, you bring Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] in, whatever you do get the kid in alongside him.” Cascarino is quoted as saying.

Just give him a chance to show how good he can be. I’ve seen Rashford deteriorate quite a lot this year, and there is no other reason because he has been taken out of the firing line.” He continued.

“Last year he was absolutely sensational at the end of the season for United and now I am looking at a young lad that has been given a new deal, but been taken out of the firing line, not playing much football. He came on for a sub yesterday [for England against Spain], albeit not for a long time but he looked completely out of sorts.”

I just find this all a bit lazy from him. Alright, he may not be playing as a striker every week, but you forget that he’s a young lad, and we’ve seen he is more than capable of performing as a winger too.

You cannot expect a teenager to keep putting in Man of the Match performances every week, and it is only natural that he has a dip in form every now and then. Trying to pin that blame on Mourinho is just a bit odd to be honest. The gaffer has been picking him more often than not, and it’s not his fault that Rashford hasn’t found the back of the net…
