Manchester United’s Juan Mata could leave the club in January, just a year after joining for then a club record fee of £37.1million. According to The Express, Juventus are confident that they can land Mata in the winter window, after the 26-year old Spanish playmaker become somewhat of a bit part player under new boss Louis van Gaal.
No fee has been mentioned yet, but you’d expect United will be looking to recoup at least £20-25million for Mata. On the whole he’s done quite well for United over the past twelve months, and theres no doubting that in the right system, Mata is one of the best number tens in world football.
However, as Gary Neville said at the time, he doesn’t really fit into our system. Moyes bought him purely as a statement of intent, and albeit an exciting signing, it wasn’t one with much logic behind it.
Mata is one of the most likeable guys in the game we love. From his weekly blog, to the big smile he always wears across his face, Mata seems to love playing for this club. Whilst it’d be sad to let him go, it probably is in every bodies best interests…
