Manchester United Football Club are slowly looking like becoming a force again, with Louis van Gaal trying to win some form of silverware this season. The gaffer has shown an awful lot of faith in Juan Mata recently, and his performance last night certainly justified his selection.
The 26-year old made a beautiful assist for Chris Smalling’s winner, but he also took the penalty despite Wayne Rooney being on the field.
“The manager has made a list of penalty takers and I am first on it right now.” The Spaniard said.
He’s first, and rightly so. Wayne Rooney’s penalty taking abilities isn’t anywhere near as good as it should be, and he misses them far too frequently.
Juan Mata has been a mainstay in the Manchester United side under Louis van Gaal, so why not give penalty duties to him? He deserves the chance based on recent performances, and last night’s spot-kick shown just how good at them he is.
